There are so many cafes around York street, but this one always seem to be packed, so today I joined the crowd to find out what the deal is.
Food
You get your basic café fare, including all day breakfast, as well as a few blackboard specials. It was cold, so I opted for risotto. Considering it’s so cheap, the seafood risotto ($13.90) actually wasn’t bad at all. Of course, it was no culinary masterpiece, but the sauce was tomatoey enough, there was just a smidge of frozen seafood to give it that flavour, and there was just a hint of cheese. It wasn’t the greatest risotto I’ve had by a long mile, with frozen vegetable and seafood, but it was warm and filling, and was satisfying enough for a Monday lunch.

Atmosphere
This is definitely more your canteen than restaurant. The tables and chairs have been cramped in, and there’s not much room to move. There are several booths that look like the best seat but were all full or reserved in advanced. The light is pretty dim and it gets pretty noisy there too.
In conclusion, I won’t come here on a date but for a cheap feed in the CBD, this is the place to be.

Service
Pretty average, but this is by no means a posh place. It takes awhile for them to come and take your order, and it’s best if you pay at the counter too…

C-factor
It’s more expensive than takeaway but cheaper than a normal café. I think it’s fair as long as you don’t expect too much. Plus, they seem to have their market figured out anyway.
