Sumo Salad

Taste

One of the better fast food joints, although I don’t visit often because their prices are quite high. They aren’t that many things on their menu, we’re actually tried almost all their offerings, and they are always very yummy. Sometimes they do have some seasonal specials and one or two new salads.

Thai Beef is described on the website as

Tender beef strips marinated in a traditional chilli lime dressing & tossed with fresh vermicelli, juicy red capsicum, cucumber & snow peas; all resting on a bed of mixed leaf lettuce, sprouts and slivers of red onion and a garnish of crushed peanuts. This light and zesty salad will transport you to any secluded beach in Thailand.
I thought this was quite nice. The beef was a bit harder than tender, but the salad was tangy, with a nice crunch from the sprouts and peanuts. It wasn’t very hot though for a Thai salad.

On the other hand, the Spicy BBQ Prawn was actually much hotter. This is one of my favourite on the menu, with juicy prawns and a sweet spicy sauce. I love the combination of the capsicum and tomatoes, although they were certainly not skimping on the red onions… it almost overpowered the other lovely ingredients. This is their website description:

With succulent BBQ prawns, marinated in fresh lemon juice and coated with sweetened chilli and tomatoes, this salad is a true-blue classic. Rich red tomatoes, fresh basil and the sun-dried warmth of roasted capsicums keep the accent Aussie and the taste dinky di.

Lovely colours, plenty of dressing, and they come in funky Chinese takeaway boxes that surprisingly holds a pretty large amount of salad. However, it does make it a bit hard to eat. The solution? Use chopsticks!

C-factor

$8.95 for a “regular” size is ok, however, why would anyone pay $7.95 for a small size? It’s still very expensive. I won’t really call this fast food either, as they make your salad on the spot and takes about 10 minutes.
