Pitango Organic Soup

I thought Pitango is only a company name, but it means a small, wild, and yet elegant cherry-like fruit that grows in Israel and other warm countries. The company was founded in NZ in 1998. There's some interesting history on their website.

Taste

I've tried 5 different flavours of these new organic soups, Indian Vegetable & Pea, Tomato, Green pea & Mint with leek and cream, New Orleans Cajun Seafood Gumbo and Corn Chicken Chowder with smoked paprika & thyme and all were YUM! I don't know if the organic factor adds anything, but the fact that the soups are fresh, have good quality ingredients as well as no artificial flavours added to them might have contributed to their taste. There are just the right amount of real food pieces in the soup, and not only was the consistency excellent, it was real easy to prepare. Just pop in a microwave container, ding, stir, ding and serve! Packaged soup isn't something new, but this is the first organic ones I've seen in the big supermarkets.

Look

The packaging is funky. You can't really rip the soup open with the opening tear they provided. But with scissors at hand, here's no spillage when transferring from the packaging to bowl. The colour and consistency look great.

C-factor

R.P.P is $5.99 for 600g, but prices vary. More expensive than cooking it yourself of course, and probably more expensive than going to a takeaway to buy it, but if you are short on time, and want the convenience of having soup whenever you want (within the expiry date of course), then it's a small price to pay.
