St Germain 2

Back again because we needed to book something from Toptable. Came here because it’s close and cheap.

Food

I am actually quite surprised by how much better the food is when you are not in a group, or maybe we finally chose the right thing from the menu. We shared an entrée of Stuffed Baby Squid (£6) - chorizo, chick peas & sherry vinaigrette was really tender and tasty. For mains, we opted for King Prawn Spaghetti (£10) - garlic, parsley & chilli, which came with 3 generous prawns, suffering from UK seafood mushiness, but the pasta was bitey and the sauce was rich with seafood and garlic. Rib-Eye Steak (on the bone) (£18) - frites & béarnaise cooked to medium rare, really nice thick frites and beautiful creamy and tangy béarnaise. Because we had such a good meal, we went for dessert Crepe Suzette (£5.50) - vanilla ice-cream was satisfying enough but not anything special.

Atmosphere

As usual, the bar was packed, but the restaurant slowly filled up to about half full. We left early so don’t know what happened after that.

Service

It seems like the service also improved when you are not in a big group. Our waiter was very nice and explained things well, and all our food arrived promptly – I think it’s a combination of the day of week and the amount of people, and from experience, everything is better on a Monday.

C-factor

Mondays and Tuesdays are 50% off, so it was cheap as chips.
