Foliage

A little disappointing actually, considering how highly this place is rated on Toptable. For the same price, I prefer Nahm.

Food

The Sourdough Bread was very nice to start with. The restricted menu had 2 of each choice, so we had:

  • Artichoke/Potato/Truffle/Quails Eggs
  • Warm Calves Head Terrine/Piccalilli/Speck/Watercress
  • Lamb Neck/Olive Mash/Sweetbreads/Pepper
  • Mackerel/Escabeche/Aubergine/Parsley
  • Chocolate Fondant/Amaretto Parfait/Pearl Barley Sorbet
  • Stilton/Port/Poached Pears/Honey Jelly
While every course was good, it was very typical French fare and nothing stood out for me as one Michelin Star quality. The recommended wine by the glass pairing of Chateau de la Negly, Coteaux du Languedoc 2003 (£7.50) was very nice though.

Atmosphere

Actually, the Mandarin Oriental is not that impressive. It’s a bit old school and needed refurbishment if you ask me. Otherwise, everything you would expect from a luxury hotel.

Service

Formal, as expected. I did feel like they were talking down to me though since I was here for Restaurant Week.
