Zimme

Food

Zimme get the prize for the worst pizza I have ever had - That's right, much much worst than the ones at Pizza Hut or Dominos - at least there you still get taste... We ordered 2 salads, 4 pizzas and a pasta from the menu. All the pizzas came with the thin base, however, the dough was charred, there was no bubbling around the edge, and I definitely couldn't detect the woodfired taste. They tasted only warm, and the ingredients were not even fresh! I don't know what kind of cheese they used, but they retain their shape when melted!

Caesar with a Diff erence ($13) - Cos lettuce, an orange looking cheese, bacon pieces, and supposedly chicken, although I didn't get any chicken from the handful that I ate, so can't comment on that, but judging by the rest of the salad, wasn't a great loss. They had no croƻtons, what kind of salad was this? At least the sauce was ok, however, the plastic tasting cheese was not.

Greek Salad ($11) - lettuce, tomato, spanish onion, olives, feta cheese, cucumbers. At least they got this right. The sauce was ok, and was one of the things I actually enjoyed eating.

Italiano Pizza ($15) - I think this had tomato sauce, olives, pepperonis, onions, capsicum. This turned out to be the best besting out of the four...which doesn't say much.

Neptune Pizza ($17) - Tomato sauce, avocado, prawns, octopus, capsicum. This was the worst pizza of the lot! I expected good things as I love prawns and avocado, but they gave us unripe avocadoes and I couldn't even really taste the prawns.

Bali Pizza ($16) - Satay beef, or was that tandoori sauce? Who knows, and dollop of yoghurt. The presentation of this pizza was a mess of brown looking stuff with a huge white dollop of yoghurt in the middle. The taste - it was hot, and that's it.

Shanghai Pizza ($16) - This one had tomato sauce, chicken, sliced potato, something else.... and yes, capsicum (and only the green ones too, just like all the other pizzas!) This was another one of those hot ones, and that's all I remember...

Smoked Chicken & Pesto Penne ($13.50) - I actually only tasted the sauce because:

  • It looked like penne drowned in a pool of green guck
  • Judging by the quality of the other offerings, I had a feeling I wasn't missing out on anything
  • Everyone else said it was tasteless and was madly adding parmesan cheese to it before it was eaten
  • There was still a lot of it left at the end of the night

In summary, ok salads, crap pizza, even crappier pasta. The least said the better.

Atmosphere

Zimme is located in the Shire, right past Tom Ugly's Bridge. There are rows of eateries there, including the legendary Pauls Famous Hamburgers (great burgers there btw, the lines are really long on weekends) and it was a busy Saturday night - it took us ages to find parking.

When we walked into Zimme the place was half empty and had no trouble sitting the 10 of us at 7.30pm... This really should have told us something about the place, especially when all the other places were packed out.

A bit on the decor.... the walls were yellow, it was certainly spacious and not noisy, and the chairs looked like the ones from home

Service

I guess I didn't have much expectations from the staff, but we stood at the entrance for a good few minutes before anyone even attempted to seat us. It wasn't like they were busy or anything. Another 10 minutes and they offered us the menu and asked if we wanted drinks. We had to keep asking them to fill up our water, but at least they got our order right and calculated our bill correctly...

C-factor

We paid $10 per person after using 2 25% off discounts from the eBook. To think that I could have eaten heaps better for possibly less at Haberfield (best pizza in Sydney btw)

At least we got to bitch about how bad the food was !
